When we bought our house, it was a mess. It was a repo, and the people who lost the house left their animals in the basement, and left the place a mess. We ripped out the carpet, and bleached the floors downstairs more than once. Yet a bad smell remained. We bleached again. But the slight bad smell remained. Today Richard had an idea and called the gas company. They said to not light any matches, use any household equipment, and to leave the house. They came out immediately----within 15 minutes or so---and found that we had three, count that 3, gas leaks downstairs. Not big, but big enough that we had a bad smell in the house for weeks now. We have been working, ripping out walls, using the saw, drill, washer and dryer downstairs, and have had a couple of hot dog roasts out in the backyard. We are very thankful that God kept us safe, and we didn't have any explosions.
The gas man, with his helper Taylor, checked out all of the lines downstairs, and the main line coming into the house. Leaks are fixed. They even checked underground in the backyard....and we are good to go.
And wow.....no more bad smell in the house.

Oh my goodness, how scary! Praise God that nothing happened before you figured out what the problem was.
Yipee!! It WAS a bad smell, but not everywhere. I am so glad it's over and you are all safe. Thanks again for your hospitality.
I am so glad you got it fixed before you had 4th of July inside your house !
